On my keyboard, at least, the delete key by itself performs the backspace function. FN-Delete deletes deletes the character at the cursor’s position.

To be clear, it is the delete key as Brad indicates below.

On a Mac, and all Apple keyboards, the key that performs the “backspace” function, is labeled as Delete.

It has been labeled this way going all the way back to the very first Apple I computer.

If you don’t believe me, get a sighted person to look at it for you.

The following may seem pedantic, but if you don't get it right, it won't work: Please people, it's BACKSDPACE, not DELETE. They are not the same key, and you can mash the DELETE key until you're blue in the face but it won't work. BACKSPACE is located on the QWERTY part of a keyboard, while DELETE is somewhere else.

I have never done anything that complicated.  I simply hit command shift delete and everything is deleted.  I don’t know of a simpler way to do it.

I actually went in to the trash and selected all the items with Command A and then chose to delete all the items and had to put in my password.  I thought there would be a quicker way than having to go into the trash.  In windows you can press the application key and delete everything at once.  Is there not a similar way on the Mac as there use to be.  That was where the contextual menu came in.  You’d highlight the Bin folder and then VO M and move the down arrow and the empty bin button would be there and you’d press the enter key.

When in Finder, just hit:

Command + shift + backspace/delete - whatever that key is called.

Hello.

Please could someone tele me how to delete stuff out of the bin or Trash on the Mac please as the VO M contextual menu isn’t working.

Thanks.
