Hi I have been a mac user for years.  I have an el-braille which of corse uses windows 10, but I find Mac os to be a much more stable system and you don't have to pay for SMA'S to keep your screen reader update.  Also, if you need to do a fresh instally don't need a seporate sound card to get sound with narorator.  The *stall can do be done without sited help to do this.

I purchased my M1 MacBook Pro after using Windows since 1995 for the express

and retired from teaching assistive technology in 2018 in order to go back to
my chosen profession. I still have a seven year old Windows 10 Lenovo that
updates. And occasionally I still have to go to it mostly I think because I
still have not learned to do a certain task on the Mac. But I learn more every
day.
I do not use Alex and in fact cringe at his voice. I use Allison on my Mac,
iPad and iPhone.
I love having all four of my devices including my watch on the same
environment. If the HomePod was as good as my Alexa was I would have them in
every room as well. But they communicate with my Toshiba Fire TV very well so
four now I’ll keep them.
But I hope to never have to purchase another Windows machine or another
subscription to Office. I am doing fine with the Mac, voiceover, and their
native apps such as pages and mail.

Well, I like the Alex voice better than JAWS, but my inability to find an
inexpensive OCR app is one reason why I will continue to use Mac and Windows.

I originally thought I would be using my 2019 Mac as a Winode’s machine
primarily, but some things have always appealed to me with the Mac that make
me use it a lot more. First, I can use the Siri Voice for VO on the Mac and
phone. I cannot with jaws. Second, iMessaging on the Mac is convenient and I
can paste stuff from it into other documents which has come in handy. The Mac
has improved sound quality even compared to Window’s on Bootcamp. Mac Mail is
the best, and I love being able to take Phone and FaceTime calls n my Mac
allowing me to multi-task.

I am not a Windows switcher so to speak.
I will continue to use both operating systems, but I was interested in the
ability to use IOS apps on the Mac.
Sadly, there are not as many as I'd like, but I can at least play swift
playgrounds and enjoy a consistent interface, a responsive system, and great
VoiceOver support for native apps.
Catalyst apps leave a lot to be desired.
Curiosity got me into the Mac world.

I notice a steady stream of new VO-using Mac switchers, and I was just
wondering what brought them all to the fold in recent times. Is it all about
Apple Silicon, or are there other developments out there in the Windows world
that are driving this? Something else, perhaps?

Cheers,
Sabahattin
