I'm not a scripting expert, but honestly, no you do not need it at all. In fact
there is only one script I use and that is to get the current time. Sure I can
get it easily from the menu, but what the heck, it's there. The scripting
abilities are valuable in terms of expanding VO's functionality. I do not see
scripting in VO used to always work around a problem with an application, but I
imagine it could help in some cases. I agree, there is no need to start a
pissing contest over whether scripting in a screen reader makes sense or not
because everyone has their own opinions on this subject. I will say that it is
there and considering what you can do with a script, I'm all for leaving it
there. And yes, to the best of my knowledge, it is Apple scripting. SO, the use
of scripts can far exceed the "work-around" for an app, which is evident by the
say time script.
Hope that helps some.
