Yes, that's the best reason to wait for a while longer. Apple is still
switching the Mac products to the new architecture. If any of the
products you're considering (e.g., the higher-end MacBook Pro machines)
is yet to be switched to the new architecture, I would suggest waiting
further.
There are also some features of Apple's next release of Mac OS that will
only run on the M1 and its successors.
