OK, that's a pretty light audio recording requirement. Before buying an older machine, though, you might want to be sure you can upgrade its OS to the minimum requirement for Audio Hijack.
Beyond that it's just a question of how many hours of audio you want to store. As you'll likely use mp3, this too becomes a light requirement. Note that you could also store the captured audio on an external drive, some kind of Thunderbolt (or USB) SSD, but this piece could always come later. The advantage here is that you can take the external drive to another machine, should you wish. And, just for grins, we should probably note you could use Airfoil to broadcast your captured audio across whatever PDA devices you have scattered around your home.
