I’m assuming that you’re following the instructions from Apple found at:

I used these instructions to connect to a server at work with the Files app 
with no difficulty.  Do you know what format the drive is?  MacOS Extended 
(Journaled), APFS, NTFS etc.?  Am I right to assume that you connect just fine 
with your Mac?  If yes, the Mac should essentially give you the same set of 
dialogs to deal with.  That is, Server address, username and password, and 
specific volume.  I will test at home when I get home tonight to see if I 
experience any difficulties when accessing my similarly connected drives to the 
Extreme.
