I have had this several times since 2 updates back. It appears to be a kernel crash bug of some sort. I also have a 2012 late model Mac mini. This may be a problem in the kernel specifically or an external trigger. One thing I noted in the system logs was that logging would cease about 30 minutes before the crash, which means that other system services were being impacted before the final crash.
