Hi, That’s odd indeed. To be clear, which I didn’t seem to be, the message, or messages, should be in the All Mail file whether deleted or not, not the Archive folder. The Gmail All Mail is the repository for all messages in the Gmail realm. Google uses their own iMap process, so folders and such are not really folders, but labels and your Mac or other devices do some translation to make things work in a manner consistent with regular iMap protocols.
So, essentially, what I’m saying is that the message is normally still in the All Mail folder whether it’s unread in your InBox, read in your InBox, or archived, residing in some other label, or whatever. I have 10’s of thousands of eMails in my All Mail folder. It does take the iPhone a bit to load them all, but they do show up. Sometimes, if you delete/archive them from he All Mail folder, you might have problems ever finding them, but if you deleted/archived from the InBox or some other label, it should normally still be found in the All Mail location. All that being said, if you can’t find the message there, I’m not sure where else you could look.
