There shouldn’t be much difference between any of the external drives, although some marketed specifically for apple users might have some hardware optimizations (unsure on this, so don’t quote me on it). Now, most externals work with USB and often work best with USB 3.0. There are some with the Thunderbolt 2.x or 3.x capability and those are definitely faster on transfer than any of the USB stuff.
