Have you tried simply erasing the Mac from System Preferences, choose Erase All Content and Settings from the menu bar? So long as the machine's wiped, you're fine: you can always remove the device from your account and Find My with another device be it computer or phone. Worst comes to worst, you can boot into Recovery and get it all sorted out in there, without or, if things go badly, with an external bootable USB drive.
