This problem started with the last update of Catalina (10.15.7) and has continued forward with most versions after this point (sometimes apple corrects it only to have it come back in a security update later). Right now, I am on an older Catalina system and have turned off smart addressing and it still shows up as turned on (click for menu which never works). My sighted roomie can see the actual email address, but VoiceOver won’t read it as the actual email address.
