Hello Kelly, this sounds really good. I had explored setting up windows via parallels but backed away from it for various reasons. Maybe Maybe I’ll give it another look. Of course this assumes that one has parallels purchased and installed on their machine.
Thanks for this.

Hi,

If you use Parallels to create virtual machines on a silicon-based Mac, (M1 or newer) I wanted to share a basic script I created using AI that will download Windows, create a VM and install Windows leaving you on the Windows desktop. You can get a zip file from http://www.theideaplace.net/projects/win11arm-install.zip.

The machine will be named Windows 11 ARM (Full and subsequent runs will add a number to that name.

To use, open the zip archive and then the folder created which will be named win11arm-install.

You’ll find a script inside the folder you can launch from Finder named Install Windows (Full).command. Open that and a Terminal window will open and handle everything from that point forward.

The first time you run this it will take a bit longer because of the Windows download. Subsequent runs will use the saved downloaded files and ISO that the script creates.

I know there are other ways to create VMs but this has already saved me time and seems to work well. It is getting the same build Parallels gets if you use the option they offer to Get Windows from Microsoft. It is just that requires you use a tool like VOCR to read the Parallels new machine creation process.

I don’t intend to spend much more time on this unless someone tells me of something fundamentally not working here.

Kelly
