Any configurations for Finder would be in the/Users/<yourName>/Library/Preferences folder. There are probably files that start with com.apple.finder as well as ones that start with finder. I suggest before you do anything drastic with that folder that you create a second account and see if it performs any better. Also, with iCloud synchronization, some preferences are fairly well hidden since they synchronize across devices.
