Yeah there is a software add on / plug in for the mac os to allow it to copy
/ write to an ntfs drive / file structure.
 Or you could reformat the drive as a fat 32 file structrure which would
allow you to write to the drive from both mac and pc / windows based
systems.

Here's a thought, could this harddrive possibly be formatted in nTFS?  If
so, that's probably why.  I believe  there is software you can  get, so
that you'll be able to   write to NTFS formatted  drives.
