Hi, Dom and group are different approaches for navigating html areas like web pages. Dom mode is similar to what you would see when viewing a page using a windows screen reader. Each item on the page, whether it be a link, a button, a block of text, or whatever is placed one below the other according to the screen reader at least. Dom is easiest for beginners because it only presents one link or button or piece of text at a time for your consideration. Group mode arranges the page as a sighted person would see it, with areas for different pieces of information, and all columns and tables laid out properly. This is better for advanced users because it will for example, present you a table in rows and columns as it was meant to be. It will also present you things such as all the links in the site navigation bar at once. So, if you don't want any of the links from the sight navigation bar, you can leave it with one keypress. You get more information at once and you can skip through the information more quickly to find what you want. If you want to see the difference for yourself, visit http://www.erik-burggraaf.com. This is a small web page with very good accessibility features. To switch between dom and group, press vo f8 to open the voiceover utility. Press w or arrow down to web. Press tab once and you will be on the radio buttons for dom or group. Use the up and down arrows to choose the mode you want and press command q to close the vo utility. After you make the switch, refresh the page, command r. Your not supposed to have to do this, but I'm a bit supersticious about it. Try the home page in dom mode, then try it in group. Notice that not only is access to the information easier in group, but yu actually seem to have more information in group. Of course that's not the case, you just have to spend more effort to find the info in dom than you do ing group. Then click the list of authorized resellers. Suppose you only wanted contact info for the resellers that work with me. Assuming you are in group mode, navigate to the first column of the table, and then vo down the symbols until you find the first gold star. Then vo right to see that company's name and contact info. Similarly, if you want to check a particular company to see if they work with me, you would vo up and down the list of company names until you found the one you wanted, then vo left to see if it has a blue arrow or a gold star. If you switch back to dom mode now and refresh the page, you will no longer be able to vo up and down the columns. You'll have to sift through every piece of info about every vender until you find the information you are looking for.
