Donna, You only have to use quotes if the file or directory name contains spaces. You can also escape the spaces with \.
Also, everything is case sensitive. So, "cd Documents/solona" should get you there assuming you are in your home directory. You can also tab to auto complete file names. IE, "cd sol<tab>".
