Isaac, Yes I bought mine too. I Use PC at work but at home I wanted a mbP. it was cheaper than the Dell I bought after Hurricane Katrina (OK I know computers have gone down in price in yes - 5 years). JFW and I were having some bumps in the road. New owners for Feedom Scientific.... I just do not know what the future holds and Apple has demonstrated a strong commitment to the off the shelf product.
At risk of sounding like a advertisement I want to use it off the shelf. A year with my Iphone and playing with my other's computer and I thought it was worth the $$$. Then I bought it on a back to school special as he is taking classes (OK so I will likely help him just in case there is trouble... grin) and they threw in a printer which my other spent the day networking his computer to and a I touch which became the nicest birthday gift I ever gave my sister. I am not a computer person and can use my Mac to do most things. Two months into it I am in a better place than I was in 95 when I returned to undergrad with a PC and a new Windows screen reader. I have a lot to learn and this list has been much help. Isaac - much like a phone a computer is pretty standard these days. I wonder if as access becomes the norm if it will fall under "assistive technology" as in the Rehab act. Having just completed a job with vocational rehab (and yes vocational does mean employment in Louisiana) I am keenly aware of the pending adjustment. Sorry for the rant - but if I can buy a product that meets my needs without a third party application I will. Now once I land in my new home and new job which will likely have a desk, phone, chair, sofa and PC then I will have to ponder the more serious question of how much do I not want to use a PC at work. My immediate guess is I need the job enough to use whatever screen reader will work with whatever machine they provide. For items like braille displays I hope there will always be some assist. Having worked non profit, profit and government jobs they are an awful lot for me to expect my employer to buy. Again sorry for going so very off topic.- like the Barefooted Ray I am proudly using my off the shelf Mac.
