Hi DOnna, I don't have an Alva but I did have to pair my Braillino. I went through VO utilities and it refused to pair. It kept saying that there was a driver issue or something like that. I found the best way to pair was to go to bluetooth settings by pressing VO shift M as in mary twice. THen you right arrow till you hear bluetooth. THen VO space on that. You arrow down till it says set up new device or something like that. Select that and try to pair. If the Alva has a specific pairing code, like the Braillino does, you select the radio button that says specific code enter the code and hit pair or connect. I'm sorry I forget what the button is called offhand. I know I had to do this a few times with Earle's help from Handytech with the Braillino. For some reason my VO utility doesn't like pairing the Braille display. BUt once it's paired via bluetooth it's fine. I hope that helps. I love my Braillino and use it everyday as a Braille display and notetaker at work. Have a great day.
