My apologies for the cross-post, All… I felt this was important for people on
both lists to see. I'd encourage peeps to read down to Esther's note after
mine. -Thanks!…

Esther;

thanks so much for sending this along!

I posted a comment at:

http://community.nytimes.com/comments/bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/09/an-iphone-app-helps-the-blind-identify-currency/?permid=25#comment25

-And I thankfully also saw some familiar screen names adding their voices there
as well.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to edit my comment after it was submitted, to add
that the Mac also comes with VO (as the post was talking about iOS exclusively)
but I think the appropriate points were still made. :) I'd love to see more of
our iOS-using listers from VIPhone and MacVisionaries alike adding their voices
as well. Responding to high-profile blogs and such, like this one can be an
excellent opportunity to positively educate and impact the general public as
well as professionals in areas that can likely have a positive effect for all
of us in the future.

Thanks again and do have a wonderful day!…

Smiles,

Cara :)

Hi all,

The LookTel Money Reader is the subject of The New York Times Technology
coverage in today's blog article, "An iPhone App Helps the Blind Identify
Currency" by Nick Bolton:

http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/09/an-iphone-app-helps-the-blind-identify-currency/

Could some of our articulate list members get on the blog and post a comment?
The current comments are all of the nature:
"How do blind people use a touchscreen?" and "How would a blind person know the
camera was pointed at the money? The technology is nice but I doubt this will
help the blind very much." and "uh… can someone explain to me how a blind
person can operate the iPhone without sight?"

You have to register to post. I have to dash, so I can't answer this myself,
but it would be nice if somebody brought this to mainstream attention -- like
the fact that the various iPhone lists probably have over a thousand unique
subscribers.

Cheers,

Esther
