Hi Erik, What happens when you go to the "Speech" menu of Systems Preferences, set the System Voice on the "Text to Speech" tab to whatever voice is being used to announce the time and date, and then interact with and adjust the slider so that you reset the speech rate to the fastest setting? Also, is "Allow VoiceOver to be controlled with AppleScript" checked under the General pane of VoiceOver Utility?
