I have only used pdf2txt in Linux based systems, so smiled at the windows reference.
Others here will provide the applications.
Still you can use a wonderful convert service via e-mail regardless of platform.
gives me a chance to share this with the list.
writing to:
conv...@robobraille.org
with the desired format in the subject line,
text, html, rtf and the ike
attach the file  and the service will send you back results.
I am a snob about text so tend to convert first to html, then let lynx create perfectly lovely text for me using the following,
lynx filename.htm
