Note that Macs don't support target mode over USB. Only Firewire and Thunderbolt connections. So if the other machine only has USB you'll be out of luck. While it may exist I doubt there is a USB to Firewire converter as it would require lots of processing to connect the mismatched speeds of the two technologies, not to mention quite different signaling systems. At least my poking around didn't turn up anything. There are Firewire video to USB downconverter boxes for video cameras, but that's not quite the same thing.

Can you illustrate?

On one end it is firewire, what type of connector it is, what is on the other end, usb or firewire as well?

Same connector on both sides or what?

I've done this before; you'll be wanting a firewire a to a cable. It's
actually a great feature that comes in handy every now and again.

I am not aware of such an adapter to go from USB to firewire or the other way. Actually there would be little advantage in such a setup and you would be better off going firewire. Are you just looking to copy files quickly or
migrate settings etc. from one Mac to another.

Hi!

Heard on this list that holding the t key while starting the mac makes it
like a firewire external hard disk, if this is true are there usb to
firewire adapters or must I use firewire at both sides?

Thanks.
