I have also noticed a lag in Lion as well. When I was using Snow Leopard, VoiceOver responds instantly when I press the keyboard commander for the time script. Now in Lion, I've experienced at least a 1.5 second lag. And yes, I have checked allow VoiceOver to be controlled by Apple Script.
