Has anyone used a program to transfer content from an old iPod to their Mac?

A friend has an old iPod Nano, that is Mac formatted. Her old Mac is not
working, but she'd like to rescue her music on the Nano.

Yesterday, I looked at programs where she can basically import her music from
her iPod into an iTunes library on my macbook air.

Do y'all have any recommendations? Phone to Mac, I believe is the one we are
trying, but it isn't recognizing her 1st gen Nano so far. I downloaded another
program iPodDisk, but I couldn't get that one to work. It didn't recognize my
Mac as a Lion system.

Any advice? :)

Thanks,
Traci
