There is an edit button towards the top right of the mail display.  Double tap 
Edit and then double tap the messages you want to delete.  You will notice that 
as you move through your messages they will be read as selected or unselected.  
When you are done selecting everything you want to delete, go to the bottom of 
the screen.  There are several choices, such as move etc. but the one you want 
is delete.  Hope this helps.
