Dear listers,
Before I start bugging Apple with what I think is a bug, I would like to ask
you listers about the following. I found the bug while working in Amadeus pro.
In this sound editor, for some reason, you have to enter time in a strange way.
Let's say I have a file open that is 30 minutes long, but I would like to jump
right to 10 minutes, 3 seconds and half a second more. So 10 minutes, 3 seconds
and 500 milliseconds. In Amadeus pro, I have to enter this, using apostrophes
as time separators, and 2 apostrophes to separate the seconds from the
milliseconds. Does this sound weird? I don't know why amadeus wants me to use 2
apostrophes in a row, even though that works fine if you obey, although this is
not important for this voiceover bug, but here I found something strange happen
with voiceover.
Here's the test. For ten minutes 3 seconds and 500 milliseconds, here's what I
type in inside amadeus pro. I'll type it literally, so let's see what your
voiceover says here.
10'3''500
With my current voiceover punctuation set to some, I hear:
ten, thirty nine one one five hundred. This is strange, because what I type was:
1 0 apostrophe 3 apostrophe apostrophe 5 0 0.
What the heck is happening here with voiceover? Where does that thirty nine
come from? I didn't type it, but if you omit the last apostrophe, so that the 3
seconds are now only separated from the milliseconds by just one apostrophe,
then everything speaks just fine. In other words, try typing this.
one zero apostrophe 3 apostrophe 5 0 0
If you do this, then you hear what is on the screen. With 2 apostrophes in a
row though, voiceover screws up. Can anyone confirm this?
10'3'500 against 10'3''500.
Isn't that interesting? Hmm.
