I confirmed when interacting with the table of messages in Mail clasic view I could only get the arrow keys to read the "Status" column. I believe even when VO-LEft to move over to the Subject tI was getting these symptoms. This is not the way VO worked with SNow Leopard. If you do one stop interacting, then the arrow keys will read the entire row of mail list columns.
