I was thinking if I knew the IP for WebVisum, I could modify the hosts file to fix the domain issues. Too bad I don't know it.

a domain points to the ip address of the server.
eg
www.hanksmith.net
points to the ip address that hosts my website.
a domain allows one to type in a address instead of a bunch of numbers.
thats just a simple explanation of a domain.

Hi all, when you talk about the domain, what does that mean in webvisum's case? I don't understand.

Ah okay.
If it is indeed gone, or even if not, perhaps the focus will shift back or with greater force int he direction of getting rid of captchas again. they provide so little security and are a barrier for many not just those experiencing sight loss that rewarding web developers by not pointing this out simply strands lots of people. That seems o be the case for those using this program. Is It possible the functionality will be built so well into firefox that the plug might not be needed?

It was an extension for the Firefox web browser that allowed blind folks to sign up and have the captchas solved. Recently, Firefox has been testing and developing with VO accessibility and nightly builds, and was usable for the purpose of solving captchas.

may I ask what this service did exactly? also,on another list someone simply indicated that an expired domain does not mean it is gone, just that the domain has expired. Sorry to be out of the loop, but I had never heard of this site until all the questions.

It hasn't been pirated, has it? Just asking, because I volunteer for readassist.org, which had to be reclaimed recently.

Guys:
It looks like Web Visum is no more. The domain expired on the 19th.
