Hi. Yes, I use the mobil version for reading, since there are just the reading functionality I need when I open my browser, and I have to go through a list of all new items. I think you'll find what fits bet for your needs :-)
I haven't had any sample feeds in my reader. It can be that I made my reader account when Reader was so new. Try go to settings and the subscriptions tab. There you can mark and delete subscriptions.
