The Magic Trackpad is just like a MacBook or MacBook Pro Trackpad. It just gives you the same functionality with a Desktop unit. If you press down on a MacBook Trackpad,you'll feel a sort of click which when fully depressed, is the "mouse-down" action. Holding it down performs the dragging action. The Magic Trackpad has exactly the same functionality. Pressing firmly down anywhere on the Trackpad will cause the Magic Trackpad to give a click sort of feel where you can distinguish between the "mouse-down" and regular gesture modes. So, in effect, the entire Trackpad in both cases is a button.
