Hopefully you won't have to create the vm again. However, just in case you do, here is a tip:
If you have a version of the vm on your backup - for instance, I know that superduper completely backs it up - you can delete the folder for that virtual machine in ~/Documents/Virtual Machines. the defective virtual machine. Then you can drag and drop your backup version in finder to the Virtual Machines window. As I recall, you then have to open it in finder before it actually shows up again as a virtual machine in your virtual machine library. You only lose whatever you did since the last backup. Of course this is assuming that re-introduction of the backup doesn't give you the same error.
