Why would anyone want to have a typing echo at all, unless one were learning the keyboard for the first time? In which case, the lag won't really matter, as typing speed will be negligible. For anyone typing faster than 50-60 WPM, much less 120 or so which most people type at, having typing echo set to anything other than nothing is just annoying and inefficient.
