So if you have everything you want to burn in a folder, what happens if
you pick that folder and then choose Burn To Disk from the file menu?
It's been a long time since I used CDs or DVDs for backups but I vaguely
recall that it would spread what you've got over multiple disks. Worth a
shot. At worst you waste one piece of media finding out. If you're
interested there are unixy ways to compress everything into one big file
and then split it into chunks that fit whatever size media you are
using. At some point though your time might be more valuable than the
cost of media and you should just do time machine to some external
storage. I found an external USB 500GB drive here for $50:

That starts encroaching on the media cost of a few spindles of DVDs, not
to mention avoiding a lot of hassle.

It has been quite a while since i did backups to dvd of a lot of my
media files and also various document files so I have decided to do a
complete new set. In the past I have kept the text and document files
separate from the media files and have figured out which files can fit
for each dvd and then I have run the burn. None of these files are in
iTunes. I want to know if there is either a way on the Mac or an
accessible program I can get to automate this process as far as
filling up dvds. In other words, I'd like to be able to pick out the
folders and files I want to burn and then I'd like to be able to start
the burn and have the first dvd fill up and then be told to insert
another dvd to continue instead of having to figure out the logistics
of each dvd myself. Is there a way to do this?
Thanks.
