Hi, folk,

Here's sort of a cautionary tale of mine that ended happily. A few days ago, my
cats were particularly rambunctious and knocked the power cord away from my Mac
Mini. This, as some may know, has a magnetic connection and is easily
disconnected. Unbeknownst to me, I didn't connect the power cord securely
enough, and had disconnected it twice more. A couple of nights later, my
computer was saying "busy" in Mail, and it turned out that the index was
corrupted. Then Finder wasn't responding.

Well, I put the Mac Mini in recovery mode and chose to restore from a Time
Machine backup. It took some time, but once I chose the backup I wanted,
everything is working great again.

I don't know if it's a better method than reinstalling, but if you know which
backup will work best, I think Time Machine is a very good alternative.

HtH,
Teresa
