Yes, shift and arrows still just bings at me, but VO-SHIFT ARROWS does the 
trick. Thanks, Cheryl and Alex! This is a great help. I'm grateful for this 
much, but I hope in the future Apple improves this a little. When I'm reading 
word by word but change direction, VoiceOver misses some letters which changes 
the sound of the words. I also noticed when reading character by character 
VoiceOver would not read some spaces. Perhaps this has got as much to do with 
the quality of the PDF as it does with Apple and VoiceOver. I know some PDFs 
can do really weird things with JAWS and Adobe Reader.
