I don't understand why having extra spaces between words is so unheard of. I do a lot of editing as I write, and it's inevitable that some extra spaces are left here and there. MS word's spellchecker will find and eliminate all this extraneous white space. There seems to be no equivalent function on the Mac's spell checking functions. Perhaps people just aren't aware that their text is peppered with these little, mostly visual, editing errors.
For now, I do my writing in windows MS-Word and spell check there, then copy and paste into theMarsEdit app for publishing. It works well and isn't really too much extra bother considering the superior functionality I get this way.
