I appreciate the feedback so far from everyone and apologize once again for reacting badly previously. I should never respond to a provocative email when there's other fires going on. ; )
There have been some good detail suggestions and many have made me realize that instead of diving into the design I should have stated certain goals and expectations upfront. So here goes: - intended audience is open source developers, commercial developers, and mixed audiences in or interested in the Maemo ecosystem. I also want to target enthusiasts who are considering deeper involvement. I want one flyer (single sheet presentation as Dave Neary puts it) starting outthat can cover all of these parties, and demonstrate also the potential synergies of audiences often separatedby such venues. - the initial venue will be local meetups, starting in Dallas (which I can handle) and extending for possibly a 200 mile or so radius. I will be fostering support via the maemo daemons group on LinkedIn. I expect meetups to be comprised of 5 to 20 attendees based on my research so far. Linux and Pythin user groups are my first targets. Ultimately this should become a template for other regions - I'd like to start with a flyer that's easily scalable, especially as-is. I think my latest format can succeed there but if there is disagreement than I am open to alternatives - As has been said, I think Qt needs to be prominently displayed on the first flyer developed. Qt offers a lower barrier to new coding and particularly supports the long tail, something of high interest to developers with whom I have spoken - I believe displaying the QT logo comes under fair use, but if I'm wrong I'm wrong. Who can say conclusively? I need to hear from him/her! - I am not religious about the "Developer Nirvana" phrase but I think it does sum up the strengths of the resources involved in Maemo development. Sure, it's not perfect and some pieces have yet to come together but I don't see that as dealbreakers. And if not "Developer Nirvana", then what? - the idea of displaying a few beautiful app screenshots is a good one. I'll see what I can do - I always intended this to be printed on heavy letter-sized stock for the US, possibly semi-gloss, as a 2-sided flyer with details on the back. The front needs to be clean and eye-catching. If I need to pull text off and relocate to the back, so be it. But what text? - we can of course make the flyer(s) available for download too. Note that what I have been working on lately could/should be one of many if need be. - Quim's suggestion to use a url (maemo.org/development) for contact rather than email sounds good to me Hopefully I'll get a chance to work on this on Saturday. Not much free time at the moment. One thing I do ask: there is often a tendency in this sort of activity for some to crtiticize without offering alternatives. I respectfully ask if we can skip that part. ; ) If you find a flaw, submit a fix!
