Hi, In a standard mediawiki install, there are 2 search buttons - "Go" and "Search". "Go" will go directly to a page if you enter its name, and only fall back to search results in the case of problems and "Search will always search for all matching page titles & page contents first.
In Maemo's wiki, to match the style of the rest of maemo.org, we went with only one search button, and chose "Go". This is something of an issue if you're looking for a page which contains something but there is a different page with exactly the same text. Bluetooth, for example, has a page, but you might be looking for all sorts of content if you're looking for Bluetooth - from how to do DUN networking to how to develop with bluez. I'd like to swap the behaviour to switch to the fulltext search by default, and have people click through if their search term corresponds to an exact page name match. There is a problem with this for pages with very short names. Qt is the canonical example here - if you search for Qt in the Maemo wiki you get no hits, but if you hit "Go" you get to the Qt page, which lists other links. How do people feel about this change? Positive or negative? I won't change it before Monday so you have some time to protest. Cheers, Dave. -- maemo.org docsmaster Email: [email protected] Jabber: [email protected] _______________________________________________ maemo-community mailing list [email protected] https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-community
