yes, it is possible. Having extra disk space would do great since build environment with all the development libraries takes more space than just the run-time environment. I had 80 gb USB hd so disk space as root filesystem so this wasn't really a problem for me ;p

Still, the flash is limited and might run out if building something heavy, but for example average applications compile fine without having to fear that flash runs out.
