The developer devices have the (unfortunately quite restricted) product image like the other devices. Someone else who is responsible on that, can perhaps explain (since I don't know the answer to the question why). However, like there was the discussion lately how to obtain root access, people unfortunately need to hack the device a bit to make the environment friendly and useful for development.
