I think I know where the problem is : I tried my application on the phone with the latest stable version of qt libs (4.5.3~git20090723-0maemo4+0m5). It didn't crash at all !!!! the problem occuered when using the test version of qt 4.5.3 libs (4.5.3~git20090723-0maemo4.2 ) which I found here: http://qt4.garage.maemo.org/fremantle.html I got to the url with my phone browser, and installed the packages. I turns out that the testing version of libqt4-webkit crashes with some urls (like MY_URL unfortenately and google.com !!). also mentioned here : http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=186486
