Yes, that would be very nice, I'm also surprised there isn't Speex
and/or ilbc support added for decent VoIP support without having to
pay royalties on things like g723 and g729 but there is no mention of
VoIP codecs at all.

Today, Google Talk supports the following standard voice codecs: PCMA,
PCMU, G.723, iLBC. We are also evaluating the Speex codec. We also support
codecs from Global IP Sound: ISAC, IPCMWB, EG711U, EG711A
