From my reading of the XML standards, Google's XHTML for Google Reader's
mobile interface is invalid.

The standards say that comments may appear anywhere within the document, or
within the DTD where allowed. However, the document doesn't begin until
after the XML declaration. Therefore, it's illegal to have a comment before
the XML declaration.

Furthermore, the XML declaration, if present, must be the very first thing
in the document. So, doubly invalid.

I reported the bug to Google by e-mail. Hopefully someone will fix it.
