After updating from Mandriva 2010.1 to Mageia 1, I have this keyboard
problem:
The (USB) keyboard, which is recognized by the BIOS during boot-up, no
longer does anything when I get to the Grub screen. (So I cannot boot in
safe mode)
After which the computer freezes displaying "Mageia" and nine dark polka
dots.
No such problem when I try to boot with a PS2 keyboard; with USB keyboard
booted perfectly under Mandriva.
Did you leave it a good while at that point? It can take a long time to
rebuild kernel modules for a newer kernel.
Couple hours (between 2 and 3)
I was going to say press escape to see the text boot process but you
can't without a keyboard :\
Exactly ;-3)
Cheers,

You could maybe boot with the OS2 keyboard and alter the boot options to
disable the boot splash.
I can't recall what the options are but it will either be something like
splash or quiet.
You could then boot with your USB keyboard and see where it is failing.
