Just letting people know of the fix for this unit. The laptop's owner returned it so that I could work on a possible fix to the wifi connection. After some testing and trouble shooting, I deleted the NetworkManager through the MCC which allowed a more reliable connection and I also created this file in etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf with the line "options ath9k nohwcrypt=1" which for some unknown reason made for an even more solid connection <-- I found this recommendation on a thread somewhere but lost the location. The laptop now connects to the internet and does not turn itself out, and, it no longer cuts in and out randomly. Cheers, Marc
Just wanted to add that I noticed this thread on the dev list discussing this problem. It looks like it will be fixed in the next kernel update. Link: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=139270&p=1
