Nothing is visible on screen, either graphical or text mode with alt-ctrl-F1
 
Hence the newbee-unfriendly maneuvering with Mandriva LiveCD (Mageia LiveCD 
gives the same black screen as the Mageia install) and modifying  
/boot/grub/menu.lst
