Maybe you should try mga2b3 liveCD?
And if you like it just go for it.

Feedbacking on any problem also gives better chance that mga2 will work better
on your machine later :)
I am getting productive on mageia 2 already, but carefully as per above on
important machines.

Well, I tried the mga2b3 GNOME iso on the X51 and got nowhere. As my
later post indicates the display is now working properly with mga1. The
live CD however has no idea how to drive the nVidia card and produces a
display which is unuseable. This should be the subject of another
thread so I shall follow up later. Meanwhile maybe a test on my
production machine.
