-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 My laptop has the usual tinny sound system, so I bought a Creative X-Fi USB 5.1 gadget. Some time back, Coling helped me to get that working, and that is what I normally use for music. However, I can't get the audio in/output sockets to work, so I can't use that for a Hangout.
My problem is the number of places that seem related to sound issues. I normally test the speaker setup in System Settings when using the USB setup. However, if I need to use the internal audio sockets I have to switch back to the Intel HDA card. This is where I come unstuck. No matter what I do I can't get sound out, although after a lot of experimentation I have managed to hear others speak. Aslamixergui simply shows the PulseAudio channel - so no adjustment is possible there. Alsamixer on Konsole shows that channel by default. Pulling up the Intel channel I can set everything, including mic gain, to a relatively high setting. The X-Fi channel says that no adjustment is possible. It's possible that there is a microphone problem, but I've tried both a stand-along mic and a headset, so I'm inclined to rule that out. What have I missed? The ideal would be to have everything working on the X-Fi, but anything at all that can work will be an improvement :-) Anne - -- Need KDE help?
