-fx was added during the early versions of IM version 6

Nothing to do with IM version 5.

Version 6 also saw the introducion of -evaluate properly fixed bugs in
semi-transparency (halo) effects in text, resizing, and blur. Fixes in
composition, and composition masking. And ordered handling of arguments
allowing very very complex image processing, from a single command line.

In the last year we have seen fixes in GIF animation, and layer
handling, color quantizations, ordered-dither improviments, techniques
for distorting images, as well as -fx assigments.

Basically things are just getting better, one step at a time.

If you want some of the new benifits, you need to get the latest IM
at least once every one or two months.

IM examples are updated and re-generated almost dayly against the latest
pre-beta release to find and fix bugs ASAP.

However the IM Examples main web site is about one to two days old, due
to distribution delays.
