try convert image -resize '2000x2000>' result Since the image must exceed only one of these size limits before being resized, it should catch either landscape or portrait and only resize if one side is larger than 2000 and the other is smaller than 2000. If the image is 2000 in one direction and smaller in the other direction, then it will be equal to or smaller in both directions, so will not be processed. Hope this works for you.
